Applique Music presents ‘Chapter One’ - A body of work which encapsulates the back cata-logue of Manchester DJ & Producer Mike McGuinness aka Lempo. Renowned for his four-to-the-floor cocktail of hip-hop and swing influenced house music, this release is the result of six years production work.
Featured on stations including BBC Radio One, Capital FM and Kiss FM ‘Chapter One’ has received support from industry heavyweights such as Pete Tong, Claude Vonstroke and Roger Sanchez to name a few. The album features a collection of originals, collaborations and remixes with many of Lempo’s high profile industry colleagues.
Every track on ‘Chapter One’ has charted in some capacity, including no less than ten num-ber #1’s across various download stores and two Music Week top 20’s.
DJ Lempo’s career began in 2006 with a residency at Sankeys in Manchester for the club brand Bitch Events. In 2010, Bitch Events relocated to Venus The Club in Manchester where Lempo remained resident DJ until October 2014. In January 2010, Lempo was voted Man-chester's number one DJ in an online poll ‘The DJ List’. He presented his own radio show on Cheshire FM 92.5 from November 2010 until moving to Manchester’s Unity Radio FM 92.8 in January 2012. In 2014 Lempo switched from the airwaves to Mixcloud and has gained a cult following, with his ‘Twisted Melon’ mix-tape series consistently topping the house music chart. Lempo has been a regular performer for UK club brands Ministry Of Sound, Cream and The Warehouse Project, having supported artists such as Disclosure, Steve Aoki and Skrillex.

Later that year Lempo launched his own imprint Applique Music with the labels first release, ‘The Best Times’ featuring Brazilian chanteuse Angelita Jimenez which reached #2 on Trackitdown, #3 on Traxsource and #21 on Beatport, gaining support from Eric Morillo and Roger Sanchez.
In 2012 Lempo sampled Nancy Sinatra, giving her 1966 signature hit ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking’ a 21st century refresh with Japwow. The single 'Jack in Boots' on Susu Music was featured on the i-Tunes home page upon release, reaching number #13 in The Music Week Club Chart (UK) and #36 on Beatport. ‘Boston Boogie’ a collaboration with Toolroom Records’ Will Gold, was Lempo’s first number #1 when it topped the Trackitdown store, Will Gold also remixed Lempo’s collaboration with The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra 'Leaders Of Men' which sampled the score from the Sony Playstation game 'LittleBigPlanet'.
2013 saw Lempo work with several acclaimed artists including Wonked Records’ Japwow on ‘Sound Of The Horns’, House music legends K-Klass on ‘Brass Attack’ and with the producer of Craig David’s platinum selling ‘Born To Do It’ album - Mark (The Artful Dodger) Hill on ‘Playboy Bunny’ featuring Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson on vocal, which reached #1 on Juno Download and #54 on i-Tunes, while gaining support on BBC Radio One with plugs from Greg James and Nick Grimshaw.
2014 was spent on the Ninjury project, a collaborative alias with Japwow, producing a studio album. ’Cowabunga’ reached #1 on Traxsource and #1 on Juno Download, supported by Claude VonStroke at Ultra Music Festival in Miami along with BBC Radio One plugs from Pete Tong and Danny Howard. Roland Clark featured on ‘The Fat Lady’ with Lempo and Nin-jury which also reached #1 on Juno Download - Roland is an American vocalist, best known for his international hit singles "Flowerz" with Armand van Helden and “Star 69” with Fatboy Slim. The third and final Ninjury track to feature on this release is ‘Wishbone’ which was re-mixed by Dirtybird’s Will Clarke, achieving another brace of number #1’s on Traxsource and Juno Download.
2015 started with the dance floor favourite ‘Woo Yeah’ reaching #1 on Juno Download and #82 on Beatport with several plays on Capital FM. In the summer Lempo released the sun-kissed deep house single ‘Making Love’ with a vocal from X-factor (Holland) finalist Barry James Thomas, which reached #1 on Juno Download, #20 in the Music Week Club Chart (UK) and #32 on Beatport.
2016 began with the piano-house single ‘Soz’ being selected as Spinnin’ Records first ‘Track Of The Week’ for the new year, it peaked at #2 on Juno Download and was supported by Andi Durrant on Kiss FM. Canadian vocalist MC Flipside - who broke onto the scene as the voice for dance anthem 'Hi Friend' by Deadmau5 in 2008 was next to work with Lempo, on the single ‘Goinout’ which became a Juno Download #1 and Trackitdown #1, not to mention it’s inclusion in the first-round ballot for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards within both the ‘Best Dance Track’ and ‘Best Music Video’ Categories. Next up was a collaboration with American rapper Princess Superstar, best known for her single ‘Perfect (Exceeder)’ with Mason which reached #3 in the UK. She teamed up with Lempo on the hip-house single ‘Tri-umph’ which went straight to #1 on both the Juno Download and TrackitDown download stores.
So what’s next for Lempo? He has just finished an official remix of Snoop Dogg’s ‘Let Me Hit It’ for LA imprint Docka Records, which is due for release in January. He also has a collaboration with House Music royalty - Roland Clark, entitled ‘House Doctor’ coming out on Todd Terry’s InHouse Records in February. Lempo is currently locked away in Oscillate Studios in Cheshire (UK) working on his arsenal for 2017, he was quoted as saying “Chapter One represents my journey so far, a nod to all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to work with and learn from.
